Glasgow Golf Club have been mown away by the Progressive Turf Equipment Pro-Flex 120 they have taken on demonstration from local dealer, Hamilton Brothers!
Based in Killermont, Bearsden on the North bank of the River Kelvin, Glasgow Golf Club was founded in 1787 and claims to be the world’s 9th oldest golf club. The manicured parkland course, which follows the original line of play to the green sites laid out by Tom Morris in December 1903, has hosted many prestigious events and therefore requires the utmost in care!
Stuart Taylor, Course Manager and his team work hard to maintain a perfect finish. As every good Greenkeeper knows, efficient grass cutting machinery is also par for the course. Stuart looks to Hamilton Brothers to supply and service their groundcare machinery and equipment.
“We have been dealing with Hamilton Brothers for 15 years,” Stuart explains, “They have supported us very well in a variety of different ways. It depends on the product, they were Toro agents but that has now moved to another company. We still source other materials from them and the support from them has been very good.”
For several years, Glasgow Golf Club had been operating a ride-on mower. In order to keep up golfer’s expectations and ensure a smooth finish, Stuart and his team decided to take demonstration of an anti-scalp contour mower and called on Hamilton Brothers to try Progressive Turf Equipment’s Pro-Flex 120.
Greens Staff, Gerrard Broadley and Ryan Brennan have tested the Pro-Flex 120 over a month to see how it handles the challenges of maintaining the parkland course.
“We expect our grass cutting machinery to perform well and cut the grass without leaving any damage, we would look for a rotary deck not to scalp any areas,” says Gerrard. “The Pro-Flex 120 offered us something a little bigger that could save time spent mowing whilst maintaining a high quality of presentation.”
The good news is that it seems the Pro-Flex has not only met Gerrard’s standards but far exceeded them. “The Pro-Flex offers high performance, cut quality and doesn’t leave any mess in the long or wet grass, it performs the same as it does in the dry.”
The Pro-Flex is manufactured by Progressive Turf Equipment and is exclusively distributed in the UK by The Grass Group. It is not a new machine, but it has been tested and developed over several years and now boasts several new and improved features!
The new maintenance free blade spindle is completely interchangeable with a greased spindle that is found on earlier models. The same spindle housing is used providing wide spacing between the bearings, ensuring low bearing loading and long service life. The inclusion of maintenance free spindles not only provide end users with peace of mind, but they also reduce overall maintenance time and costs!
Glasgow Golf Course have certainly enjoyed the hassle-free benefits of the mower, which has also helped reduce their cutting time. Greens Employee, Ryan Brennan exclaims, “The Pro-Flex reduces the amount of time you are actually cutting, it has reduced our cutting time by at least a day.”
The Pro-Flex also has an industry-exclusive Pro Lift-N-Turn system as standard- a feature not found on other contour mowers. Pro Lift-N-Turn allows the operator to temporarily raise the decks slightly off the ground without stopping whilst the PTO is still engaged. This feature allows the operator to raise the decks when crossing a path or obstacle without fear of any component damage or impact on belt life.
