Based in Easter Lathrisk Farm, Fife are vegetable growers CCM Farming. Farm Manager, Steve Wallacle, and his team work hard every day to grow a range of vegetables across several fields. With the responsibility of overseeing the production operation, Steve is certainly kept busy, “Every day is different. I get a lot of satisfaction from quality produce going up the road”.
Steve accepts the challenges that come with farming in Scotland admitting that “the biggest challenge we face is the weather, in particular the rain”. However, Steve also acknowledges the East Coast climate does have advantages, “The daylight levels and lack of extreme temperatures make Fife perfect for vegetable farming.”
In order to keep going Steve looks to Reekie Ltd, revealing that “We’ve always dealt with Reekie. We bought a Massey Ferguson 135 from them in the early days. However, we moved away from main line tractors, returned to Reekie in 2008 and switched to Fendt after hearing about the benefits of Vario. We’ve been dealing with Reekie ever since.”
Fendt, hailed as the only ‘true’ Vario, has no gear steps allowing the driver to easily handle speed work and operate the tractor conveniently and efficiently with a multifunction joystick. After being won over by Vario, CCM now run a whole fleet of Fendt tractors and Steve remarks “we have found Fendt to be very reliable, we cannot fault them”.
CCM also turn to Reekie Ltd for Service support with Steve acknowledging that “Reekie offer good back up and the engineers are well trained”. When it comes to an crisis, CCM are confident that they can rely on Reekie, “they can send an engineer to us in under an hour in an emergency”.
