Alternatives to Iodine

You may be aware that the strong iodine for navels has become increasingly difficult to obtain at a reasonable price. We currently have a limited quantity of the 10% strong iodine but future supplies are likely to be significantly more expensive.

We have as a back up purchased a product called Umbispray from VetSet – this is a 450ml fast acting aerosol spray developed for treating the navels of newborn calves and lambs. Its powerful bactericidal action is designed to kill bacteria and dry the cord fast to ensure a healthy start.
