Can you believe it’s over two years since Massey proclaimed they were due to launch a brand new, purpose built range of rugged tractors for the global market? The 2015 announcement was considered to be bold as it would see AGCO move away from their usual series upgrade philosophy and return to a clean sheet design for a modular product line of 75-130hp tractors. Manufactured from their Beauvais factory, the Global Series would be developed to feed a worldwide demand for simple lower horse power tractors, a market left largely untouched since the golden days of the 390!
Massey embraced their ‘back to basics’ challenge and the farm world waited with bated breath. First came the 4700 series, which we had pinned to be the next ‘Workhorse for West of Scotland stock farmers’. Thankfully, the first instalment did not disappoint and proved to be worth the wait!
Next followed the sturdy 5700 for small arable farmers and finally, the all singing, all dancing 6700 to complete the range! With the Global Series, Massey offer an unrivalled choice of modern yet straightforward tractors that prioritise ease of use, cost effective operation, reliability and performance over flashy extras.
Eager to appeal to cries for simplistic and easy to use tractors, Massey developed a 12 x 12 synchromesh gearbox with a hydraulically operated clutch. There are six main gears for field operation in low range and transport or high speed field work. The eight gears in the main 4km/hr to 12km/hr field working range are coupled with the high torque and low engine RPM which reduces the need to change gears.
This kickback against the tide of technological advancements has sparked a wave of nostalgia amongst customers to the good old days of nut and bolt engineering. Yet, Massey have retained hallmarks of their modern design with the latest engine advancements and in-cab comforts.
Fuelled by an AGCO Power engine with ‘All in One’ emission control system, the Global series meets current emissions regulations and fills a gap in Massey’s low horse power product range with 75-95hp in the three model 4700 series, 100-110hp in the two model 5700 and 120-130hp in the 6700 series.
What’s more, cab comfort is retained with panoramic visibility and air conditioning. The slim dashboard with analogue and digital displays and ergonomic controls, including electro-hydraulic activation of the diff-lock and four-wheel drive for convenient operation, have also been a hit with our customers!
Drawing on all that made the classics popular in continents far and wide, Massey have succeeded in their ambition for global domination by producing a range of tractors that are local in approach yet global in outlook resulting in versatile features with short order turnaround times!
