‘MASSEYS OF TRACTORS’ SOLD TO ARRAN…WERE YOUR RELATIVES PART OF SCOTLAND’S AGRICULTURAL HISTORY?

The Original Hamilton Brothers Sales Ledger from 1946

When we unearthed the original handwritten Hamilton Brothers sales ledger recently cataloguing every sale since we opened in 1946, little did we realise the impact it would have on Scotland’s agricultural history! A couple of gems include the sale of our first tractor, a Ferguson TE20 for a mere £343 to Ranfurly Golf Club on 18^th December 1946, Registration Number DHS112. Does anyone know if this tractor is still in existence? If you know, then let us know! Also on record is a certain Massey FE35 De Luxe tractor purchased on 12^th April, 1960 by Mr J. MacAlister, Sliddery, Arran. You guessed it! This gleam machine now owned by Colin Hutton won this year’s Vintage Tractor Competition at the Arran Show.

Talking of the Arran Show, for a bit of fun this year we decided to put together a  ‘Massey Down the Decades’ document of every Ferguson and Massey tractor sold to Arran since 1946. Not only did it pull the crowds, it also stirred up a lot of fond memories from relatives and friends of previous Massey owners.
