Diane, who works part time as a shepherdess, looks after between 500 – 600 blackface ewes on the ground north of Blair Atholl and, with a busy lambing season, was delighted by the ease and effectiveness of the new Allingham Quad Crate.
“This is the first year I have used the quad crate and it is now almost as useful to me as the dog is for gathering sheep,” said Diane.
As an ATV attachment, the Quad Crate is designed to make farm work easier, faster and more efficient and is exactly what Diane needed to lighten her load:
“Previous years have seen me catching heavy ewes weighing close to my own bodyweight then having to lift them onto the rear rack of the quad. Now I catch the ewe, open the crate door at the nearest side and in she goes! There is even enough room to put a lamb or two under her nose!”
Ideal for catching and transporting sheep, Diane found the crate more useful than a trailer for working with blackface ewes.
“The easy opening door catches on either side of the crate are excellent. I just position the quad so whichever way the ewe is facing she can walk out and straight into a pen. Trailers have been tried before and although brilliant in flat fields or on a road, I find them unbeneficial on rougher ground. With the crate being attached to the quad directly you don’t have to be too particular with the route you take.” said Diane.
The Allingham Quad Crate is Great!
We are delighted that the Allingham Quad Crate has been a success for Diane. The team at Reekie Ltd are always happy to help our customers find the right solution for their own farming methods.
“Personally, for me, it has changed my lambing… and my life for the better. The Crate is Great,” said a very happy Diane.
As well as transporting livestock, the crate can be used to carry out a range of different tasks including transporting fencing equipment, carrying feed and gathering wood.
