Our Story

The Russell Family Get Masseys More with Ross of Lanark!

We are family! The stakes are high when trying to win over the whole family, but it seems Massey have succeeded with Ross of Lanark customers D&M Russell.

Situated just outside Lanark, D&M Russell of Cobblehaugh Farm specialise in dairy, beef and cereals. With nearly 28 years under their belt, Jim and Elaine Russell have just about mastered the fine art of running a mixed farming enterprise. Advocates of the mantra ‘many hands make light work’ the whole Russell family muck in, including sons Sandy and Scott.

“Working on the farm helps bring the whole family together,” Jim Russell smiles. However with four key players to please and a whole host of tasks to complete, picking the right machinery can sometimes be difficult.

Over the years the Russell family have come to rely on Ross of Lanark for top of the range machinery and equipment. “We started dealing with Ross of Lanark in 1994 as we were thinking of changing a tractor,” Jim remarks, “We tried a Massey and liked it so much that it wasn’t long before we got another couple.”

Today, Jim and Elaine have chosen Massey Ferguson 5455, 6470, 6475 and 7718 tractors for various applications with help from their Area Sales Manager, Pat Turner. “It is safe to say that we have definitely been converted,” laughs Jim, “The Masseys are nice to drive and they come in a vast range of sizes, which certainly helps when running a mixed enterprise.”

To tackle the challenges of mixed farming, the Russells run a big fleet of machinery which also includes a JCB 527-58 Agri Loadall and several Kverneland attachments from the feeder bedder to the fertiliser spreader.

D&M Russell also look to Lanark to maintain their machinery’s health. Jim admits “I used to do repairs myself but we found it is easier for Ross of Lanark to handle all servicing. With the advanced technology of modern tractors, they will pick up on things I’ve missed using diagnostic testing. In the long run it cuts down on breakdown time.”

Looking to the future, D&M Russell hope to expand but keep farming in the genes, with Elaine joking that, “Our two boys may want a farm each eventually. Then we can retire!”

Here’s to ‘Masseys’ more years of farming from the Russell clan!
