Eric Gardiner (Managing Director (left)), Andy Reid (Engineer (middle)), Jim Steel (Sales Director (right))
Recently, Andy Reid celebrated his diamond anniversary with us, after joining the company in 1964! Andy is still a dedicated engineer in our workshop at our Bishopton depot to this day.
When Andy first joined Hamilton Brothers, he worked in the workshop for 3 years before moving to our Campbeltown depot where he worked with his brother John.
“I didn’t do an official apprenticeship,” laughed Andy, “there was no need to, because my older brother John already worked for Hamilton Bros, so I’d secretly been his side-kick for years!”
Andy moved back to Bishopton after a while and was out in the van for about 35 years, covering the west of Scotland and the islands, before moving back to the workshop at Bishopton.
Massey Ferguson 135 restored by Andy Reid!
Andy also restored vintage tractors for a few years too, in particular he is really proud of the Massey Ferguson 135 he restored for Jim Auld. Despite Andy’s expertise, this project proved his most challenging to date. Jim’s 135 had worked hard all its life and then sat unused for over a decade. As a result, Andy had to build the tractor back from the bare bones of its chassis authentically.
Andy said, “This was the biggest challenge yet since I started restoring tractors. Several people said that the tractor couldn’t be restored, however I took it in my stride and enjoyed the process of refurbishing this tractor from start to finish”.
Before Andy worked his magic!
Andy Reid with his restored Massey Ferguson 135 – what an outstanding job!
We appreciate all of your hard work and dedication. Congratulations on this incredible milestone Andy, from all of us at Hamilton Ross Group!
