The Alan Cameron Prize is awarded to honour the memory of Alan Cameron, an Agricultural Apprentice in our Bishopton depot who passed away in April 2023. The prize was awarded to Bruce as he demonstrates all of the qualities that made Alan such an exceptional young man – excellent work ethic, a positive attitude, and passion for their role.
We had a chat with Bruce about his apprenticeship with us:
What do you do day to day?
Everyday is different, so I could be servicing and checking over machinery, or just whatever is needing to be done.
What do you get out of your apprenticeship?
I get further knowledge that I wouldn’t get anywhere else, and I am earning and learning at the same time.
Would you encourage other young people to go down the apprenticeship route?
Yes I would as it is a great way to earn and learn at the same time at a young age. Also, if you’re not enjoying school then it’s a great way to get a bit more hands on.
What do you enjoy the most?
Fixing and servicing quadbikes and working on the nice big Fendt’s – but they never break down!
What do you like about working at the Hamilton Ross Group?
It’s really good, I get to work with a lot of great and very knowledgeable people, and I certainly learn a lot from them.
Where do you see this apprenticeship taking you?
Hopefully I’ll become and a fully qualified engineer and hopefully get a service van at some point and be able to get out and about.
How do you feel about winning the Alan Cameron Prize?
I feel very honoured and I have made myself, my parents and my colleagues very proud.
Alan Cameron Prize!
Smiles all round! Congratulations Bruce!
Well Done Bruce! From all of us at Hamilton Ross Group.
